Luke Norman is a two-time NSCAA All-American out of Rochester, Michigan. The six-foot-two midfielder/forward was coached by Dave Hicklin of the Vardar Soccer Club and is a two-time Adidas Elite Soccer Program participant and All-Star. "Luke is an attacking, two-footed player who loves to go at players," Vidovich said. "He is a good server of the ball from the flank and can also strike the ball on goal from distance." Danny Wenzel is the furthest a field in this year's signing class, recently making the trek from Federal Way, Wash. to begin spring semester classes at Wake Forest. Wenzel, a six-foot defender/midfielder who captained the U.S. U-17 team during the 2007 World Youth Championships in South Korea, will be a key component in replacing the holes left by graduated seniors Julian Valentin and Pat Phelan in the backline and midfield. Like classmate Norman, Wenzel is also a two-time NSCAA All-American with recent experience on the U.S. U-20 National Team. "Danny has played at the very highest levels and has captained his country in a World Championship, which will be a huge asset to our team," Vidovich said. Jesse Sokolow is a six-foot-two defender who grew up just down the road from current Wake Forest rising senior Mike Lahoud in Reston, Va. Sokolow was named to the 2007 Washington Post All-Met and All-District Teams, as well as the Most Valuable Player at Bishop O' Connell High School, where he serves as team captain. "Luke is a hard-working defender with good pace and some versatility to play either as a center back or on the flank," Vidovich said.
Nick Millington is one of two North Carolina signees for 2008, hailing from Raleigh the Capital Area Soccer Club (CASL) coached by Bruce Talbot, Carlos Somaono and Jay Howell. Millington was a member of U.S. U-17 residency program and the U.S. U-20 National Team. In 2007 the five-foot-nine midfielder/defender joined classmates Wenzel and Norman with NSCAA All-American honors. "Nick is a very versatile player who has excelled at the highest level in the National Team program," Vidovich said. "Nick has played a number of positions including outside back and in the center of midfield. He reads the game extremely well and has a great work rate and attitude." Sean Haglund also trained at CASL in Raleigh, where he was a United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) National Champion and USYSA National Runner-Up. The six-foot-two forward from North Raleigh Christian Academy is a two-time NSCAA All-American and two-time Adidas ESP participant. "Sean has an excellent left foot and is a great server of the ball from the flank," Vidovich said. "He also has good size and comes from winning teams." Kyle Adams completes the 2008 signing class. The six-foot-two defender is from Fayetteville, Ga. where he was a member of AFC Lightning Club team coached by Robin Dixon and Steve Muccillo. "Kyle is very athletic and is an excellent defender," Vidovich said. "He's good in the air, is a good one v. one defender and is able to also play out of the back. He is an excellent student and quality person." |
