Wake Forest Upsets Clemson 2-1

Ihor Dotsenko got the Deacons on the board first in Wake Forest's 2-1 victory.

CLEMSON, SC--Jaron Barbee scored in the overtime period in giving Wake Forest a 2-1 upset win over Clemson in a Atlantic Coast Conference men's soccer match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.

Wake Forest improves its record to 9-9 overall, 2-4 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 9-5-3- this season, and 2-3-1 in league play.

The Deacons' winning goal came at the 97:59 mark, (7:59 in the sudden-death overtime period). Kyle Bachmeier played the ball to Ihor Dotsenko in the middle of the box. Dotsenko immediately played the ball to Barbee on the right. Barbee sent a diagonal 12-yard shot to the left corner of the goal for the game-winner.

Wake Forest opened the scoring with 5:57 gone in the match. Brock Hilpert's throw in was headed in by Dotsenko from eight yards out giving Wake Forest the early advantage.

Clemson's Jody DeBruin scored at the 61:09 mark. Tony Williams crossed the ball to DeBruin who sent a diagonal shot in from eight yards out.

The Tigers will play Maryland in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday night November 13, at 8:00 p.m. Maryland is seeded fourth and the Tigers are seeded fifth. The winner of the Maryland-Clemson match will play number-one seed Duke at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night.

Wake Forest is seeded sixth in the ACC Tournament and will play third-seeded N.C. State Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
