WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--The seventh-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the Deacons' ACC home opener at Spry Stadium Saturday night. Ben Stafford scored one of the quickest goals in Wake Forest history, putting Wake up 1-0 just 16 seconds into the game. Stafford scored again on a penalty kick at the 12:09 mark in the game. Chad Evans increased the Wake Forest lead to 3-0 early in the second half on a goal off an assist from Chris Lonteen off a Wake Forest corner kick. Adam Hakes scored the final goal of the night at the 79:13 mark to make the final score 4-0. With the win, Wake Forest improves to 8-0-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the ACC. N.C. State drops to 5-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in ACC play. Wake Forest will return to action when it hosts the second-ranked Duke Blue Devils Wednesday, Oct. 13. Gametime is set for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
