WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--The 18th-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team battled the Richmond Spiders to a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods here at Spry Stadium in the first round of the Nike-Wake Forest Classic Friday night. After a scoreless first half, Richmond took the lead at the 48:30 mark in the game on a goal by Andy Moden. Wake Forest answered at the 62:12 mark when Jeron Barbee scored off an assist by Aaron Thomas. The two teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods to end in a 1-1 tie. With the tie, Wake Forest is now 4-0-3 on the season, while Richmond is 4-2-1. In the early game, the UNC-Charlotte 49ers defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 2-1. Stephen Miller and C.J. Robinson scored the goals for the 49ers. The lone Vanderbilt goal was scored on an ungoal when a UNC-Charlotte player knocked the ball into the Vanderbilt goal. UNC-Charlotte is now 2-3 with the win, while Vanderbilt drops to 4-2 with the loss. The Classic will resume on Sunday, Sept. 26 with UNC-Charlotte and
Richmond playing at noon and Wake Forest and Vanderbilt playing at 2 p.m.
