WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior defender Chad Evans and freshman midfielder Jamal Seale scored goals just 1:15 apart in the top of the second half to lift Wake Forest to a 2-1 victory over San Francisco in the opening round of the Nike-Wake Forest Men's Soccer Classic at Spry Stadium on Friday night. The Deacs (2-0) and the Dons (1-0) battled to a 0-0 tie at the half after a defensive struggle in the opening period. Wake exploded offensively in the second half, attacking the Dons' net with a flurry of shots. Evans fired one past USF's Zack Vaughn at the 47:59 mark off a deflected Chris Lonteen pass to put the Deacs up 1-0, and Seale stuffed his first career goal in just 1:15 later off assists from Greg Krauss and Brock Hilpert. Inge Klevberg got USF back in the game with an unassisted goal at 67:20, but the Dons couldn't manage an equalizer before time expired. Wake outshot USF 17-8, including a 14-4 advantage in the second half, and held a 10-5 edge in corner kicks. In the first game of the night, St. Bonaventure's David Servello broke a scoreless tie at the 80:45 mark to lift the Bonnies (1-0) to a 1-0 shutout of North Carolina (1-1). After both teams struggled to generate scoring opportunities early in the game, Cervello found the net off a deflected cross from Jamie Schneider for the win. Wake Forest and St. Bonaventure will play for the tournament championship on Sunday, September 6 at 2:00 pm at Spry Stadium. North Carolina and San Francisco square off in the first game at 12:00 pm.
