STORRS, Conn. -- Wake Forest used a late second half goal followed by another score eight minutes into the overtime period to defeat the University of Connecticut men's soccer team by a score of 2-1 Friday night in Storrs. The game, part of first day action in the Bob's Store's UConn Classic, was played before a crowd of 4,376 in the first night game in Connecticut soccer history.

Connecticut opened the scoring 31:38 into the contest on a forty-yard blast from junior Mansour Ndiaye (New York, NY) over the head of Wake Forest goalkeeper Rob Vartughian. The Wake Forest equalizer came forty-five minutes later when Ben Stafford nestled a lead-in pass from teammate Chris Lonteen past Connecticut keeper Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE). Stafford again beat Hancock eight minutes into the extra session on an unassisted tally. The game was the season opener for both teams. The Huskies outshot the Deamon Deacons 14-11 in sustaining the defeat.

The two-day Classic resumes tomorrow with the Huskies battling Duke, a 1-0 loser to St. John's earlier in the evening on Friday, at 7:30 p.m. Wake Forest and St. John's will face off in the first game on Saturday, scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
