About Cronin: Followed stellar freshman season in 2005 by earning starts in all 2006 matches... earned ACC and NSCAA accolades... has found niche in midfield as team "pit bull"... 2007 co-captain... capable of scoring long distance goals... proved to be a fighter and a leader... game is perfect for Wake Forest style of play... calm and controlled with the ball at his foot... quality distribution skills out of the back.
IN 2006: NSCAA Second Team All-South member... ACC All-Tournament team... Deacon's 2006 MVP... only sophomore to start in all 25 contests, marking 43 consecutive career starts... helped Deacons post 13 shutouts... registered four goals and four assists... helped hold Central Florida to one shot in season opener (8/25/06)... scored WFU's lone goal in spring season match vs. 2006 ACC Co-Champions Duke (3/30/07).
In 2005: One of only four players to start each of the Deacs' 23 matches... recorded 12 shots and added three assists... registered a pair of assists in the victory over St. Joseph's on Sept. 20... added assist in the NCAA Tournament win over South Carolina on Nov. 18... along with Michael Lahoud, first freshmen to play in and start 23 matches in one season... helped the Deacons log nine shutouts on the season and post a goals against average of 0.98... went a span of 241:45 without surrendering a goal and did not even allow St. Joseph's a single shot on Sept. 20... helped limit opponents to seven or fewer shots on nine separate occasions... named to the ACC All-Freshman squad.
Background: Named 2003 NSCAA Youth adidas All-American... a hometown product and letter winner from Mount Tabor HS... named all-conference, all-region, all-state, all-south and the Metro Conference Player of the Year... led the team in goals, assists and points each of his last two seasons... helped high school team to the 2002 4-A State Championship... 1986 Region III All-Star... two-time adidas ESP participant... member of the National Honor Society... an all-conference kicker in football and Metro Conference Kicker of the Year... actually kicked a field goal with each foot in the same game... brother, McNeil, played soccer at Furman... brother, Colin, currently runs cross country at NC State and another brother, Hugh, plays soccer for the Wolfpack.
