Sept. 29, 2001 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wake Forest men's golf team slid to fifth place in the 15-team field at the Ping/Golfweek Preview after two rounds at Ohio State's Scarlet Golf Course. The Demon Deacons followed up a 289 yesterday with a 292 in the second round to put them 13 over par and 10 strokes behind the leader, Clemson. Brent Wanner led the Demon Deacons with a one-under par score of 70 on the second 18 holes, giving the junior from Chatham, Mass., a three-under par total of 139 to place him in a tie with Viriginia Tech's Brendon De Jonge for second place. They trail the leader, Ari Savolainen of Florida, by two strokes. Bill Haas is tied for fifth place with a one-under par two-day total of 141, Chad Wilfong improved two stokes today to tally 150 and tie for 48th place, while Jay Morgan and Cortland Lowe both carded second-round scores of 77 to tie for 58th with totals of 152 each.
