WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's golf coach Jerry Haas announced Wednesday that former Rollins College standout Dan Walters has been named the new assistant men's golf coach at Wake Forest.

Walters replaces Chris Yoder, who was hired as the assistant coach at Ohio State earlier this summer.

"I couldn't be more excited to join Wake Forest at this time," said Walters. "There is a lot of great stuff going on not only with the team but with the building of a new golf facility. This is a great opportunity for me and I am excited to get started."

Walters was a two-time PING first team All-America at Rollins where he averaged 72.77 shots per round and posted 16 top-15 finishes in 21 events with three victories over his final two years. In all, Walters recorded five collegiate victories and was a three-time Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar.

He also won the 2006 Sunshine State Conference Championship and was named first team All-South Region and first team All-Sunshine State Conference in both 2005 and 2006.

"I am really happy for our team and for the university because we are getting a great person," said Haas. "Dan has a great personality and he is a very good player. With everything that is going on right now, it's like a new fresh start here and Dan is perfect for the job. He will be a great asset for our program and I look forward to working with him."

Walters was a three-year letterwinner for the Tars from 2004-06 and remained with the program as an assistant coach for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

While he was coaching at Rollins, Walters also played professionally on the North American Professional Golf Tour and the NGA Hooters Tour. He finished 14th on the NAPGT money list in 2007 and was 11th place on the 2008 Hooters Tour Winter Series. The Lancaster, Pa., native also finished as the low professional at the 2008 Pennsylvania Open.
