WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Brendan Gielow defeated Webb Simpson 2 and 1 in the Wake Forest Team Matchplay Championship at Forsyth Country Club.

Gielow recorded seven birdies and stopped Simpson's two-year win streak in the event.

Gielow finished five under par. Simpson finished three under.

The Muskegon, Mich. product is currently second on the team in stroke average at 72.5 per 18 holes and has recorded two top 10 finishes and six top 20 finishes on the season.

Gielow and the Deacs await placement into the NCAA Regional, which will be announced Monday at 6 p.m. over an NCAA teleconference.
