JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Senior Brendan Gielow and freshman Evan Beck each shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday to lead the Wake Forest men's golf team in the second round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Country Club in Johnson City, Tenn.

Gielow made four birdies and an eagle in his round while Beck carded a total of five birdies in his season-best round. Gielow is currently tied for 10th at 2-under par while Beck starts the final round in a tie for 25th after shooting a 3-over 75 on Friday.

This was Gielow's sixth round this season at par or better while it was Beck's second round of 2-under 70 on the year.

As a team, the Deacons card their second-straight round of 2-over 290 and will head into Sunday in sixth place at 4-over par. Tennessee shot the low-round of the day with an 8-under 280 and is tied for first with first round leader Oregon State at 9-under through 36 holes. The teams hold a five-shot lead on third-place Virginia.

"I thought we played pretty well today," said Wake Forest head coach Jerry Haas. "It was cold and wet again and our guys just kept fighting. I like their mentality right now. They didn't let the conditions get them and they stayed pretty focused throughout the day. I think we're going to come out tomorrow and have a really good round."

Senior Travis Wadkins hung in there for a good round on Saturday, shooting a 1-over 73. He made the turn at even par and fell to 2-over with a bogey at No.13 but the Dallas, Texas, native made a nice birdie at the tough par-4 18th to finish with a 73. He will start the final round tied for 51st at 6-over par.

Sophomore Daniel Meggs hit the ball well in the cold conditions Saturday but just couldn't get his putter working. After shooting a career-best 68 on Friday, Meggs made just one birdie in his round of 5-over 77. He will start the final round tied with Beck at 1-over par.

Fellow sophomore Lee Bedford had a tough time loosing-up his back in the cold conditions and would go onto shoot an 84.

Freshman Charlie Harrison shook off a tough opening round to post an even-par 72 on Saturday, making two birdies in two bogies in his round. Harrison will start the final round tied for 64th.

Oregon State's Diego Velasquez followed-up his opening round 66 with a 2-under 70 and leads the individual competition at 8-under par. He holds a three-shot lead over Tennessee's David Holmes and UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock, who are both at 5-under.

The Deacons will start the final round at 9:20 am Sunday morning. Live scoring of the round will be available through Golfstat.com.
