Rocky Face, Ga. - The Wake Forest men's golf team is in third place at three-over par after one round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, taking place at The Farm Golf Club. Host Georgia Tech leads the 15-team field with an eight-under 280, with Tennessee three strokes back in second with a 283. With a score of 291, the third-place Deacons are three strokes ahead of fourth-place Clemson (294).

Wake Forest senior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.) led the Deacons in the first round, shooting a two-under 70 on Friday. He currently sits in seventh place individually and is three strokes behind field leader Dustin Bray of North Carolina, who turned in a 67. Sophomore Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.) is the Deacons' only other entry in the top 20 at this point, as he is tied for 13th after carding an even-par 72.

Other Wake competitors include juniors Cortland Lowe (Augusta, Ga.), tied for 22nd with a 74, and Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) and Chad Wilfong (Thomasville, N.C.), both tied for 30th with first-round scores of 75.

Teams begin second-round action Saturday morning on the par 72, 6,906-yard course. The 54-hole event will conclude on Sunday.
