Corvallis, Ore. - The Wake Forest men's golf is currently in third place after one round of the NCAA Championships, held at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore. The Deacons, ranked 10th nationally, shot an even par 288 as a team on Thursday's 18, and are five strokes back of field leader Arizona State and four strokes back of second-place Stanford. Twenty-seven teams are competing at the NCAA West Regional, and the top 10 teams and two individuals after 54 holes will advance to the NCAA Championships, held at Duke May 30-June 3. Deacon sophomores Brent Wanner and Cortland Lowe both carded a two-under 70 on Thursday's round and are in a tie for fourth place individually. UCLA's John Merrick leads the field after shooting a five-under 67. Other Deacon results include Bill Haas and Jay Morgan, who both shot a two-over 74 and are tied for 50th. Sophomore Chris Yoder turned in a 79 on Thursday and is in 124th place. The second round of the West Regional takes place on Friday with the final 18 on Saturday.
