Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team, ranked 18th nationally, posted its fourth top-three finish in as many events, capturing second place after the final round of The Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon. The 54-hole event included 12 teams, 10 of which are currently ranked among the nation's top 50, competing at the par 72, 7,027-yard Finley Golf Course.

After posting two sub-par rounds on Saturday to begin Sunday's round in second place, the Deacs turned in a two-over 290 to maintain its position in the standings. Duke University used a one-under round on Sunday to vault from third to first for the team title. WFU finished just two strokes behind the Blue Devils with a six-under par 858 for the tournament. The state's "Big Four" schools took the top four spots in the standings, as co-hosts North Carolina and NC State finished third and fourth.

Wake Forest sophomore Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) posted the team's best finish with a fourth-place showing. Wanner finished the event with a four-under 212 (70-70-72), just three strokes behind individual champion, Kevin Streelman of Duke. Deacon freshman Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.), dropped from his second-place standing after carding a 75 on Sunday, but still finished ninth overall with a two-under 214 (69-70-75). It was the fourth top ten finish of the year for both Wanner and Haas.

Sophomore Cortland Lowe (Augusta, Ga.) gave Wake Forest another top 20 finish, as he recorded a one-under 71 on Sunday to place 17th with a one-over 217 (72-74-71).

Other Deacon competitors included junior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.), who finished 28th with a four-over 220 (77-71-72) and sophomore Buck Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) who placed 44th with a nine-over 225 (72-74-79).

With the regular season now complete, the Deacon golf team focuses its attention on the ACC Championship, which takes place at Disney World's Magnolia Golf Course in Orlando, Fla. from April 20-22.
