Men's Golf Tied for Seventh after Two Rounds

CARY, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team recorded team rounds of 297 and 299 on the first day of action to stand in a tie for seventh place out of 12 teams at the BellSouth Yellow Pages Intercollegiate. The tournament is being contested on the 6,822-yard, par-72 course at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, N.C.

With a 36-hole score of 596, or 20-over par, the Demon Deacons stand tied with Kansas and North Carolina for seventh place, 15 strokes behind team leader New Mexico (+5). UNLV and Minnesota share the second-place spot just three strokes behind the Lobos.

The top Deacon performer on the day was junior Jamie Gallacher, who fired a 76 and a 71 in the first two rounds to stand at 3-over par. Gallacher is part of a nine-way tie for 13th place in the individual standings and is six shots off the pace of individual leader Wil Collins of New Mexico (-3).

Senior Michael Capone, coming off a career performance at the Carpet Capital Classic last week, shot 77-72 and is tied for 31st place at 5-over. Senior Oscar Sanchez is tied for 39th place at 7-over after carding a 74 and a 77, while senior Thomas Parker is tied for 44th at 8-over after shooting 71-81. Freshman Jay Morgan rounds out the Deacon contingent, shooting 76-79 to stand tied for 52nd place at 11-over.

The final round of the tournament will be completed on Saturday morning.
