Men's Golf 11th at Carpet Capital Collegiate
Deacons continue in second round on Saturday.

DALTON, Ga.-- The Wake Forest men's golf team shot a 14-over 302 on Friday to stand in 11th place after one round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic golf tournament, played on the 6,896-yard, par-72 course at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga.
The Demon Deacons are 17 strokes back of team leader Clemson, who had two players shoot 69's in the first round to help the Tigers to a 3-under 285. Matt Kuchar of Georgia Tech holds a one-stroke lead in the individual standings after firing a 68 in the first round. Wake Forest senior Ryan Gioffre (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) fired a 2-under 70 in the first round of play and stands tied for fifth place overall. The rest of the Deacs didn't fare quite as well, however. Senior Thomas Parker (Laurinburg, NC/Scotland) shot a 76 and is tied for 45th place, and junior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) is 56th with a 77.
Senior Ray Floyd, Jr. (Miami Beach, FL/Miami Country Day) shot a 79 and is tied for 71st, while sophomore Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England/Bradfield College) is 88th after carding an 84. Second round action continues Saturday, with the final round taking place on Sunday.
