TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Wake Forest men's golf team shot an 11-over 299 in the first round of the Seminole Classic to stand in a three-way tie for fifth place out of 16 teams. Due to a rain delay, only 18 holes of the tournament were played this afternoon, rather than the originally scheduled 36. The event is being contested on the 6,965-yard, par-72 course at the Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee. The Demon Deacons, along with South Alabama and North Carolina, stand 14 strokes behind the team leader, South Carolina. The Gamecocks were the only team under par in the first round of play with a team score of 285, and they currently hold a nine stroke lead over second-place NC State. Leading the way for the Deacs was freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK), who fired a 1-over 73 and stands in a eight-way tie for ninth place individually. Morgan is four strokes behind the individual leader, South Carolina's Kyle Thompson, who recorded a 3-under 69. Senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) and sophomore Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England) both shot 75s and are part of a nine-way tie for 26th place at 3-over par.
