Well it's finally here. Wake Forest football training camp starts tomorrow and that means that today is the last Camp Countdown installment. Most of the writing and clippings featured members of the Deacon team but were written by outsiders. For the final day, we wanted to showcase a project that was put together by the student-athletes themselves.
The Deacon Rap was written by members of the 1986 squad in response to the Chicago Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle. The team members played their own instruments and recorded the video at a studio in Greensboro.
Deacon RapDaryll McGill #44, Running Back
The number's 44, I'm Daryll McGill
I can run, I can fake, even shake and bake
I start runnin' the fans all shout,
My time has come, the coaches say,
Paul Kiser #61, Offensive Guard
I don't write checks my body can't cash.
I don't say much, and there's good reason,
My number one job is to move the D-line,
I don't know Judo, I don't Karate;
A.J. Greene, #21, Defensive Back
I'm A.J. Greene, small and lean.
So buy a ticket, don't come alone,
My mission isn't complete until we win the game.
So tell the other team not to unpack,
Tim Morrison, #72, Offensive Lineman
They call me psycho, I go hog wild. Playing the line, that's my style.
I'm quick off the ball, I make them skate.
I laid on the beach, grew up in the surf,
I'm the wrecking ball of the offensive line.
Jamie Harris, #7, Quarterback
I'm Jamie Harris - I can throw, I can run.
They call me sugar and I know my role,
When the game's on the line, we're running out of time,
We can move the ball on the ground or the air
Chorus
We're the Deacs. You know our name.
It's the Deacon rap and before we're through,
Day 30: Wake Forest Football, 1889 Day 29: Assistant Coach Beattie Feathers Day 24: 'M' Non-Lettermen Day 22: Larry Tearry's Poetry
