Scouting Report
Spent most of last season as a back-up to All-ACC punter Ryan Plackemeier... kicking coach Billy Mitchell feels Hale is talented enough that he could start for most teams... gives the Deacons outstanding depth at the position... doesn't have a booming leg but is very consistent... .gets the ball off quickly... a good pooch punter... in a tight race for the starting job... also serves as the holder on kicks... saved the Deacons on occasion last season by handling a bad snap... has great hands and has resumed his role as the holder on field goals and PATs.
2003
Earned his second varsity letter... a reserve to All-ACC punter Ryan Plackemeier... punted twice during the Duke game... had a long punt of 32 yards and put one inside the 20... also served as WFU's holder on placekicks.
2002
Moved into the starting role after returner Chris Rolle left the team during preseason camp... started the first five games of the season... got off to a rough start in his collegiate debut at NIU, recording punts of 33 and 16 yards before booming a 67-yarder in his final attempt of the game... put two punts inside the 20 versus ECU... averaged 39.9 yards against the Pirates, including a long punt of 46 yards... had four punts at NC State, averaging 37.8 yards... tallied 262 yards on seven punt attempts, including a 47-yarder, at Purdue... had four punts against Virginia, averaging 28.8 yards... did not see action the rest of the season as Ryan Plackemeier took over punting duties.
2001
Joined the Demon Deacon squad during the 2001 season... did not see any game action.
Background
A multi-sport standout in football, soccer and basketball at Morehead HS... earned all-conference honors as a punter... was also an all-conference goalkeeper on the Panthers' soccer team... named the soccer team's MVP as a sophomore and senior... involved in a variety of activities, including editor of the yearbook, member of the concert choir and the Science Olympiad... appeared on the "A" Honor Roll all four years... member of the National Honor Society.
