A key member of the 1999 Wake Forest offensive game plan … with his breakaway speed and big play potential, he's a weapon that Coach Jim Caldwell and the Demon Deacon offense will most certainly put to good use this fall … has played a considerable amount the past two years, showing flashes of his talent … will be counted on to display that level of play on a more consistent basis in this his final year at WFU … enters August as the team's number-one tailback with the move of co-starter Morgan Kane to fullback a probability … will be pushed for the top spot at that position by another experienced returnee, Chris McCoy … coming off a very good offseason, one in which he made a number of big plays during spring drills … capped his offseason with an excellent Spring Game outing, leading all rushers with 92 yards on 14 carries … caught the ball well coming out of the backfield, too, which should increase his effectiveness (his only career reception to date was a five-yarder at East Carolina in 1997) … possesses tremendous speed (sub-4.4 in the 40) and quickness -- as much as any runner at Wake Forest in recent years … has retained that speed while adding more than 30 pounds through his weight-training efforts the past three years … redshirted in 1995, then saw action in only two contests in 1996 … carried one time for a five-yard gain at Maryland, then four times for 27 yards versus Navy … advanced into a top backup role at running back in 1997 before his progress was slowed by a concussion … shared the first-string duties last year with Kane and now looks forward to his best season yet as a Deacon in '99.

1998: Saw significant action in all 11 games, starting five times … did not record one particular "highlight" game, though did gain 39 yards on 11 carries (a season high) while scoring on a five-yard run against North Carolina … had picked up 40 yards (season high) on 10 rushes earlier in the year versus App State … scored on a 14-yard run in win over Navy, the longest TD run by a Deacon the entire season, and from three yards out against NC State … that 14-yarder versus the Middies was also his longest run in a season that included some productive carries, but not the spectacular moments that he had enjoyed at times during his sophomore year.

1997: Appeared in 10 of 11 contests and was particularly effective during the first month of the season … broke a 41-yard run in the win over Northwestern to set up an early field goal, then recorded a 76-yarder the following week at East Carolina that led to a touchdown … a concussion the next time out versus Georgia Tech halted his quick start to the season … emergence of veteran Herman Lewis at the running back spot in October saw his number of carries drop as the season progressed … did score his first career touchdown on a six-yard run at Duke … carried the ball only twice in the last three games, however … still finished the year with a team-best 5.3 yards per carry.

BACKGROUND: Rushed for 900 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior at Christopher Columbus High under the guidance of coach Dennis Lavelle … averaged an outstanding 8.0 yards per carry, gaining that yardage on just 113 attempts in the Explorers' wishbone attack … top single game efforts included a 210-yard outing (with 3 TDs) versus Miami High, and a 182-yard/4-TD performance against Norland … named to prestigious all-Dade County unit following his senior campaign … member of the varsity squad all four years at Columbus … also very successful as a trackster, competing in the sprint events and on relay quartets … won a district title in the 100-meters as a junior, was the district 200-meter champion his senior year, then went on to finish third in the state in that event with a time of 21.7 … cousin of former Notre Dame All-America and NFL player Dave Waymer … a sociology major … will be 22 during the midst of the '99 schedule (born 10/19/77).
