WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Freshman Al-Farouq Aminu helped lead 20th-ranked Wake Forest to a 4-0 record last week and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for his efforts. The 6-9 forward from Norcross, Ga. (Norcross) averaged 12.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the four games. During Wake's 3-0 run to the 76 Classic championship over the weekend, Aminu averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. In the Deacons' 87-74 title game defeat of Baylor Sunday night, Aminu posted his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Aminu opened the tournament with 14 points and seven rebounds vs. Cal State Fullerton on 6-of-9 from the floor. He then followed that performance with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and eight rebounds vs. UTEP in the semifinals. The Demon Deacons are off to a perfect 6-0 start to the season and Aminu is averaging 13.3 points and tops the team at 9.5 rebounds in those six contests. Aminu and the rest of the Deacs will have a quick turn around as they host Indiana in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday evening at 7:15 p.m. in the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
