WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest baseball team closes its non-conference schedule on Tuesday, May 12, when it plays host to Winthrop at 7 p.m. at Wake Forest Baseball Park. An audio broadcast of the game will be available on WakeForestSports.com. Wake Forest enters the game with a 21-27 overall record and a 6-21 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Deacs were swept by Maryland last weekend in College Park. Mike Murray led Wake Forest at the plate against the Terrapins, hitting .455 over the three-game series. Tyler Smith hit .333 during the three games with three doubles, while Steven Brooks hit .308 on the weekend. Carlos Lopez recorded his second multi-homer game of the season in Saturday's game and Evan Ocheltree and Weldon Woodall also added round-trippers in the series. Woodall leads the Deacs with a .333 batting average on the year. He also holds the team lead in hits (57), doubles (12), total bases (96) and on-base percentage (.433). He is tied for the team lead in RBIs with 37. Brooks is batting .316 on the year with four homers and 28 RBIs. He leads the team with 11 stolen bases. Mike Murray is hitting .301 with six home runs and 36 RBIs. On the mound, Zach White has made a team-high 21 appearances on the season. He enters Tuesday's game with a 4-1 record and a 3.50 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .238 against the freshman southpaw on the season. Winthrop is 30-21 on the season, including a 16-8 mark in Big South Conference play. The Eagles were swept in a three-game series at Arizona State over the weekend. Winthrop is hitting .315 as a team and sports a 5.35 team ERA entering Tuesday's game.
Eddie Tisdale leads the Eagles at the plate with a .385 batting average and a team-high 51 runs scored and 48 RBIs. Tisdale has hit eight homers on the season and driven in 48 runs. Eddie Rohan leads the team in round-trippers with 14 on the season and is also second on the team with 47 RBIs. Seven different Winthrop players are hitting over .300 on the season. Closer Tyler Mizenko has made a team-high 26 appearances out of the bullpen and has 11 saves on the season with a 2-4 record and a 3.82 ERA. Greg Hough has appeared in 24 games, all out of the bullpen, and has a 1-0 record and a 4.37 ERA. Sophomore Brandon Johnson (0-0, 5.81) will make his second start and 15th appearance of the season for Wake Forest on Tuesday, while Winthrop has yet to announce a starter for the game. The series against Winthrop, which dates back to 2004, is even at five entering Tuesday's game. Wake Forest won the first meeting this year on March 10, claiming a 6-4 win.
