WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

The undefeated Wake Forest baseball team will face off against Appalachian State on Tuesday afternoon in a mid-week game against two in-state foes.  First pitch between the Deacons and Mountaineers is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.

The Deacs will send freshman Alex Wiesner (0-0, 0.00) to the mound to start the game.  The left hander from Chesapeake, Va., will be making his first start in a Deacon uniform.

Wake (3-0) is coming off a series sweep against Kent State over the weekend that saw junior Willy Fox shine in his Deacon debut.  The Scottsdale, Ariz., native led the team with a .556 average and five RBIs in Wake's three wins over the Golden Flashes.  He also fell a home run shy of hitting for the cycle on Friday, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs in the game.

Junior closer Ben Hunter picked up where he left off in 2006, coming in to earn two saves in the second and third games of the series.  The Cincinnati, Ohio, native came on in the ninth on Saturday with two outs and the bases loaded and got a fly-out to left to end the game on the first batter he saw.  On Sunday, Hunter worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out the final two batters to preserve the victory.  He did not allow a single baserunner on the weekend.

Appalachian State (3-1) will start right hander Calvin Teague (0-0, 0.00) against the Deacs.  The junior will be making his second appearance but first start of the year for the Mountaineers.

Wake Forest will try to start the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2001 season,  also the year of its last ACC Championship.

Following the game with Appalachian State, Wake will head to the University of San Diego this weekend to play a three-game series with the No. 18 Toreros.
