Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest redshirt junior Brendan Enick spearheaded a 14-hit attack as the No. 25 Demon Deacons completed a three-game sweep of Boston College, 8-6, Sunday afternoon at Hooks Stadium. Wake Forest improves to 17-5 overall and 4-2 in the ACC, while the Eagles drop to 9-9 and 0-6.

Enick, who had three hits and three RBI in Saturday's 11-4 rout, went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a three-run home run. Enick feasted on the Eagles' pitching all weekend. The designated hitter batted .667 (8-for-12) with two home runs and seven RBI over the three-game series.

Senior pitcher Kyle Young (2-0) picked up the victory tossing 4.0 innings of relief. The right-handed hurler allowed five runs, only three of which were earned, on five hits. He struck out three and walked two.

Michael Wanamaker (3-1) was charged with the loss -- his first of the season. Wanamaker entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after the Eagles grabbed a 6-4 lead with two unearned runs in their half of the sixth.

Sophomore Andy Goff greeted Wanamaker with a single and senior Casey Sterk followed with a walk. Freshman Evan Ocheltree followed with a perfect sacrifice bunt, moving Goff and Sterk into scoring position. Sophomore Austin Jones followed with an infield single that scored Goff. Boston College shortstop Joe Ayers' throw was wide of first which not only allowed Sterk to scamper home from third, but also allowed Jones to move into scoring position. After freshman Dustin Hood grounded out, junior All-American Matt Antonelli ripped an RBI single up the middle giving the Deacons a 7-6 lead. Freshman Allan Dykstra capped the four-run inning with an RBI double into the gap making the lead, 8-6.

The two-run lead was more than enough for the Wake Forest bullpen. Freshman Tyler Smith, junior Josh Ellis and sophomore closer Ben Hunter all tossed 1.0 hitless inning. The trio each faced three batters. Ellis struck out a pair in the eighth, while Hunter fanned one in the ninth en route to his ACC-leading seventh save of the season.

In addition to Enick's offensive outburst, Hood, Antonelli and Dykstra each had multi-hit games. Hood went 2-for-5 with a run scored, Antonelli went 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI and Dykstra went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Sterk was 1-for-1 with an RBI single and three walks.

Senior Kip Byrum started for the Deacons and did not factor in the decision. The southpaw tossed 2.0 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits.

Eagles' starting pitcher Nate Jeanes also did not factor in the decision. He worked 5.0 innings and surrendered four earned runs on eight hits. Jeanes fanned two and walked two.

Wake Forest returns to action Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference tilt against High Point. First pitch at Hooks Stadium is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
