About Byrum... Walk-on that tried out for three straight seasons, finally making the squad in the fall of 2004... southpaw that changes speed as well as any pitcher on the staff... was forced to pitch out of his role in 2005... ideally, is a perfect situational left-handed pitcher... grandfather graduated in class of 1949 and father graduated in class of 1975 (both also attended WFU medical school)... major is health & exercise science with minors in minors chemistry and biology... born on June 9, 1983 in Norfolk, Virginia.

In 2005... Made 23 appearances and started five games, including a pair in the ACC Tournament... went 3-2 and posted a 7.52 earned run average... worked 52.2 innings... much more effective out of the bullpen, went 3-0 with a 5.45 ERA... picked up first career victory with 2.2 innings of relief against Cincinnati (Feb. 26)... allowed one earned run in 3.2 innings of relief and registered the victory at Maryland (Apr. 23)... tossed 4.0 scoreless innings out of the Demon Deacon bullpen to record the victory against Elon (May 10)... baffled Florida State in the Deacs weekend series against the Seminoles, allowing no runs in 5.0 innings of relief in the series.

Prior to Wake Forest... Earned two letters in baseball at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC... helped J.H. Rose to the 2003 Eastern Regional Champions... also a member of the National Honor Society and the Latin Honor Society... also played both soccer and football in high school.
